The Rise and Shine was at the Cotton Bowl this morning! It's incredible how they can pack so many cars in together! I had to say goodbye to Barb this morning. Her sister (who lives in the Dallas area) came to pick her up. I kept threatening to kidnap her for the next two nights, but decided to keep peace in the family by leaving her behind to spend some time with her sister. Thanks, Barb…had an awesome time with you! From Monty Python quotes to reminiscing our Navy days, and my newest vocabulary list now includes "Meerkat" and "Hair Blog" with entirely new meanings! Hahahaha!!
Today's drive was mostly uneventful. We stayed on the Interstate the entire way to Memphis, with one small detour to check out President Clinton's boyhood home in Hope, AR. I saw the house as I drove past it, but never saw any signs or other MINIs parked, so I missed the opportunity to go inside or get a picture. Oh well…I didn't vote for him anyway. Lol!
Just outside of Memphis was some heavy duty construction. Traffic was backed up for several miles, and creeping along. I think it took 30 minutes to travel 10 miles. Finally got to the hotel and discovered about 20 kids waiting to wash the cars for a $10 donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital! They had it set up like an assembly line! A couple kids hosed it off, 3-4 soaped it up and wiped it down with sponges, the next 2 hosed it off again, and finally another 3-4 toweled it dry! All in about 10 minutes or less!! It was a great deal!
After the car wash I drove around to the front to check into the hotel. About another 15-20 minute wait in line for that, but at least they had a room ready this time! Got to rest a bit and catch up on the blog before heading out to Beale Street for another MINI party…Memphis BBQ style! Chicken, Ribs, Pulled Pork, the works!! Plus live music inside and on the patio!
I also walked up and down Beale Street, looking for souvenirs, but nothing really jumped out at me. So I started walking back to the parking garage when I saw this….
All I can say is it's a good thing it was closed, cuz I'm sure I would have found a souvenir over there!! And sadly, they won't open early enough tomorrow morning before we leave. Dang it!!
